Emma Pliskin is a research scientist at Child Trends in the sexual and reproductive health research area. She holds a BA from NYU in anthropology and public health, and a Master of Public Health degree from the CUNY Graduate School of Public Health. Her master’s thesis used qualitative data to explore prior experiences with post-exposure prophylaxis among cisgender men and transgender men and women who have sex with men and who were recently diagnosed with HIV. Before joining Child Trends, Emma worked as a senior research assistant at the Guttmacher Institute, where she conducted quantitative research on structural barriers to contraception, the impacts of policy changes on method use and satisfaction, and patient-centered contraceptive care. Emma’s research interests include community-based and participatory research methods; program evaluations; sexuality, LGBTQ health needs, and LGBTQ health disparities; consent, healthy relationships, sexual violence, and reproductive coercion; reproductive justice; and anti-racist and anti-incarceration initiatives.
